Coming-of Age Day is celebrated on the second Monday of January and today is the day. This day is dedicated to the nation’s young people who have reached the age of twenty.  They are now new members of adult society! Local governments hold Coming-of Age ceremonies to which young people are invited. Many young women attend the ceremonies in  beautiful long-sleeved kimonos.

I have a daughter who just turned twenty. She went to a beauty salon to do her hair, makeup and dressing. Since many girls go to beauty salons, some girls have to go there at four o’clock in the morning! My daughter met elementary school classmates at the ceremony  whom she has not seen since the graduation and had a great day.
