We enjoyed a very special Benibana-zome workshop @baikoan

Benibana is safflower and zome(some) means dyeing.

What is special about this activity is that we used only natural materials for dyeing, especially, Ubai, smoke-dried Ume plum, as catalyst. No other place uses this ancient technique anymore.
Ubai has been consumed as a tea,
medicine, and food from ancient times, too.

They built a beautiful ecological system for this hands-on such as using rainwater for rinsing and using leftover safflower as fertilizer for vegetables and trees. These home-grown vegetables were served as our delicious lunch today!

The place deeply rooted in its history gives you a sense of oneness; We are a part of its history and nature!

Fresh greens were vivid and shining in the rain, and tears came into my eyes. So peaceful. So beautiful.
I felt the blessings of nature.

The gardens of Seirai-in opened to the public just one month ago.
Now Blue Bottle Coffee has a cafe stand at the entrance, and you can grab a coffee in the temple admiring the gardens.

Honestly, I couldn't drink it because I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the gardens.
